I was invited to participate in the creation of an architectural project for Burning Man in Nevada. This structure, designed by architect Arthur Mamou Mani, was located at one of the main intersections of Black Rock City.
I handled the entire Art-Net lighting mapping across more than 1,000 universes, under extreme conditions and in less than a week, using SMODE.
The main challenge was the uncertainty of the exact lengths of each LED strip and the final DMX order. The structure consisted of seven alcoves that needed to be controlled independently, 12 lighting projectors, LED mapping for the doors, and an LED ring surrounding the structure (see the videos below). This was complemented by a face at the entrance containing several hundred RGB LEDs and a video projection using four HD projectors to display content generated by Refik Anadol.
Designed to operate on a 24-hour timeline, I also developed a custom setup on TouchOSC, allowing real-time override from a smartphone. Some concerts and events held within the structure featured a custom layered light programming.
Project completed in collaboration with Lumens Labs, the structure’s builder, and Refik Anadol, the video content creator.
